What’s included in the Alarm Kit?
The alarm kit comes with the main control panel, 1x PIR, 1x Door Reed, 1x wireless remote and 3x Key tags.
Does the system work for all sizes of homes?
Yes, the kit allows for a sensor near the main entrance and a door reed at an alternative door. For the best protection, we recommend purchasing additional add-ons to account for a sensor in each room/area where forced entry could occur. E.g. through a window or door.
Will the alarm sensors (PIRs) work with pets?
Pet-friendly PIR (Passive Infrared) sensors are designed to ignore the movements of small pets like cats and small dogs, reducing false alarms. These sensors can differentiate between human intruders and pets by detecting body heat and movement patterns. If you have larger pets, it’s best to place the PIR sensors in rooms where your pets don’t usually go to avoid triggering the alarm.
Are there options for cameras?
You can purchase additional hybrid Camera PIRs. These work as alarm sensors and when activated, they take a 5-second video clip that you can then view in the Hik Connect App. Alternatively, HSM offer a range of CCTV solutions. Contact us on 0800 548 347.
Is there a maximum amount of add-ons per alarm panel I can have?
You can add up to 96 different Zones (PIRs, Smoke Detectors Door reeds), 48 wireless key fobs and 8 keypads.
How can I arm and disarm the alarm?
There are multiple ways to arm and disarm the alarm. This can be done via the Hik-Connect app or via the wireless remote or the key tags provided with the kit. The key tags require you to swipe on the main alarm panel. You can also purchase a wireless keypad with tag reader functionality included.
Can I add more sensors or devices to the system later?

How easy is it to install the alarm system?
The alarm is an easy DIY installation. See our installation step guide for further info.
How does the alarm monitoring service work?
Your alarm will be monitored by our team from our A1 Graded Monitoring Station in Hawkes Bay. Our team will respond based on your chosen response plan providing support in the event of an alarm activation.
Is the monitoring service 24/7?
Yes, our monitoring team works 24/7 and will respond in the event of alarm activations.
What areas or countries are supported for monitoring?
All of New Zealand can benefit from receiving calls from our monitoring team. Urban areas have the added benefit of choosing if they want a guard to attend in the event of an activation. Guard calls our charges are $149 incl GST per call out.
What happens if I want to cancel the monitoring service?
You will need to speak with a member of our monitoring team via 0800 548 347. Termination charges are applicable and will be based on the remaining value of your contract.
Can I control the system from my phone?
Yes, using the Hik-Connect app, you are able to remotely arm and disarm the alarm as well as view logs etc.
What happens if the power goes out?
The Alarm kit has a built in battery that will last up to 12 hours.
Can multiple people have access to the system?
Yes, up to 40 users can register for the app.
What is the range of the sensors?
The Standard PIRs (sensors) have a sight range of up to 15m.
What should I do if a sensor stops working?

What do I do if I want to change my response plan?
You can amend your response plan at anytime by emailing monitoring@hsmgroup.co.nz.
What happens if I move to a new home? Can I take the system with me?
