Sick of your current gate setup? Here’s how to improve it.

Another Monday has rolled around, which means it’s time for Part 4 of our Tips of the Week series. This week, we’re focusing on Gates and Entry Points. Whether it’s your home, business, or a larger site, how people enter and exit matters more than you might think.

If you’re still relying on manual locks or outdated remotes, it might be time to upgrade to an automated gate or keypad system. Not only do these give you more control over who can access your property, but they also make everyday use a whole lot easier.

One of the biggest advantages of automated gates is the ability to set custom schedules for access. You can automate opening and closing times to match business hours, staff shifts, or delivery times, all while keeping the gate locked outside of those periods.

If you want to take convenience up a notch, Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras can be a game-changer. Approved vehicles are recognised as they approach, automatically triggering the gate to open. No remotes, no stopping, just seamless access.

Another great addition is pairing your gate system with an intercom or camera. This lets you see and communicate with visitors before granting access, adding an extra layer of security and convenience.

While we’re talking gates, it’s a good time to remind you to keep on top of servicing your gate motor. For domestic and small commercial sites, gate motors should be serviced annually (every 12 months). For high-traffic or large industrial sites, servicing should be done every 6 months. Regular maintenance helps extend the life of your motor and ensures your system is reliable when you need it most.
